New Umrah Visa Regulations for 2025

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has introduced significant amendments to its Umrah visa policies, effective from January 17, 2025. These changes aim to enhance transparency and improve services for pilgrims during the Umrah season. According to a report by Visa Index, these updates align with the broader efforts to streamline travel and pilgrimage experiences.

Key Updates to Umrah Visa Regulations

  • Improved Transportation Services: Air conditioning will now be mandatory in vehicles transporting pilgrims between Makkah and Madinah.
  • Expanded Entry Points: New land and sea ports will be opened to accommodate more pilgrims.
  • Enhanced Electronic Visa System: The Nusuk platform will be upgraded to simplify the application process.
  • Increased Residential Capacity: More housing units will be available near the Holy Mosques to accommodate pilgrims.
  • Traffic Regulations: The General Traffic Department will introduce measures to reduce congestion in key pilgrimage areas.
  • Stronger Health and Security Measures: Enhanced protocols will ensure a safer pilgrimage experience.

Mandatory Health Requirements for Umrah Pilgrims

The Saudi Ministry of Health has mandated specific vaccinations for travellers entering the Kingdom for Umrah. Pilgrims must provide proof of immunization against:

  • Meningococcal meningitis
  • SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)
  • Seasonal influenza
  • Poliomyelitis (for travellers from affected regions)
  • Yellow fever (for travellers from affected regions)

The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority will verify vaccination certificates upon entry. Health authorities will also conduct preventative screenings at ports of entry, administer necessary medications, and inspect transportation modes.

Additionally, travellers are advised to carry chronic disease documentation and follow health guidelines, such as wearing masks, staying hydrated, and practicing good hygiene.

Simplified Visa Process and Extensions

Pilgrims can apply for their Umrah visa electronically via the Nusuk platform, eliminating the need for in-person appointments. However, those seeking an extension must visit approved Hajj and Umrah offices to process payments.

These visa amendments will affect all travellers planning to perform Umrah, visit the Holy Mosques, or explore Umrah-related sites during 1446H (2025). The changes take effect from Muharram, ensuring a more seamless pilgrimage experience.
